Due to the one way streets in the down town area surrounding the museum, the best approach is to navigate to the intersection of Church Street and South Elmwood Avenue then take one of the following two routes:

If on Church Street heading in an easterly direction -
    • Continue on Church to Pearl Street,
    • Turn right (south) onto Pearl Street,
    • Go to the foot of Pearl (at the NYS Thruway overpass),
    • Turn right (west) onto Upper Terrace,
    • Continue around Upper Terrace which becomes Franklin Street,
    • Cross Seneca Street and proceed a very short distance,
    • Watch for a small park on your right hand side,
    • The museum is located adjacent to the park.
If on South Elmwood Avenue heading in a southerly direction -
    • Continue accross Church Street onto Lower Terrace,
    • Take Lower Terrace to Seneca Street,
    • Turn left (east) onto Seneca Street,
    • Take Seneca to Franklin Street (very short distance),
    • Turn left (north) onto Franklin Street,
    • Proceed a very short distance,
    • Watch for a small park on your right hand side,
    • The museum is located adjacent to the park.
There is a very limited amount of parking directly in front of the building and some metered parking on the surrounding streets. However, there are plenty of public surface parking lots and public parking ramps along both Franklin and Pearl Streets within easy walking distance of the museum.

The section of a 1894 street map below shows the actual plot of land that the current museum building was built upon two years later in 1896. According to the map's legend, a small two story wood frame building (colored yellow in the drawing) occupied the trapezoidal shaped plot at that time.

Notice the churches in the immediate area which are still standing today.
